Cultural Mediation in Tourism Translation: Saudi Arabia as a Case Study

چکیده

Part of the recent Saudi National Transformation program Vision 2030 is significant growth tourism sector. Opening up country to international tourists means facilitating access culture through translation, where role translators as cultural mediators salient. In context, mediation in translation an under-researched topic. This paper addresses following question: What interventionst and do they position tourist against Arabic-English translated Culture-Specific Items (CSIs) Saudi-related articles? Drawing on Kwieciński’s (2001) adaption Venuti’s domestication foreignization (1995), this study adopts a descriptive approach analyze strategies parallel corpus Arabic English articles published official website Visit Saudi. The findings reveal active providing by extensively adopting exoticization explanation texts foreignize CSIs, especially contexts traditions food. paper, thus, bridges scholarly gap Translation Studies examining translating about Arabia, focusing translators’ how CSIs industry.
